🎉Happy 2022 everyone 🎉! As we enter the new year, I hope everyone’s will be full of optimism, success and joy! As we end January, here are some of my pickups from this month that include PlayStation gems, great music, denim and much more!
Video Game Pickups 🎮👾🕹
For these game acquisitions, I purchased them from Sac Anime, which is a bi-annual convention that is run in the Sacramento area and is similar to Comic Con, but the emphasis is on anime culture. Sac Anime has an exhibitor’s hall full of vendor’s who sell tons of figures, video games, posters and plushies, but also has artist’s who come out and sell art print’s and self-made merchandise. The booth I purchased these from was selling import video games, vintage toys and figures, so I scooped these two PS1 games that I’ve had on my radar!
During the PS1 era, arcade and simulation racers were all the rage and Ridge Racer was one of the first. It was an arcade port that was released on the PS1 as a launch title and really showcased what the system was able to do! From the stellar soundtrack to the tight controls and colorful art direction, It’s a must for racing game enthusiasts to see the beginning of the racing genre.
The shooter genre has peaked my interest recently and I compiled a list of titles that I wanted to try out and see what it’s all about. Philosoma was one of the shoot-em-ups on the list and I was surprised to see many shooting playstyles compiled into one game! It goes from traditional 2D side-scrolling, to top-down and even full 3-D like Star Fox or Afterburner. It’s fairly short, but the difficulty definitely lengthens the game. Shoot-em-ups are absolutely worth the play If you’re interested and Philosoma is an good example!
Cibo Matto “Stereo Type A” Vinyl 🎶
Back in 2020, I tuned in to the first episode of Kerwin Frost Radio and during that, I heard a song by the title of “Sci-Fi Wasabi” and Instantly loved what I was hearing and needed to hear more! Years later, I noticed there was a pre-order of a vinyl release up on Amazon and I had to cop to add to the collection. I hadn’t know this, but the vinyl I received was a limited edition of the album that had turquoise colored vinyl’s and was limited to 1500 copies! Stereo Type A is one of my favorite albums ever and definitely recommend you guys give it a listen!
I haven’t been able to take off my current pair of Levi’s that have the bootcut fit as of late and I’ve been looking for a pair just like it. Of course, I went to the World’s Worst Expo that happens every 3rd Sunday of the month and I came across these orange tab 517’s that had the perfect amount of distressing and flair, so I copped for a reasonable 20$! This rugged pair of denim feature the perfect amount of snags, distressing, whiskering and heal drag that give a wonderful vintage flair. They hug the thighs and flair out perfectly and pair great with boots of course! If you’re looking for a perfect pair of flaired denim, look out for the 517 model of Levi’s!
Lots of Soul Eater manga 📚
My tradition of heading over to Half Price Books after work led me to a big selection of Soul Eater manga volumes on the shelves and a few of the less common volumes behind the glass. I purchased a good majority of the second half of the manga, only missing 22, but I’m still missing a handful of volumes due to some volumes being way too expensive. Year’s ago, I acquired 1-8 and stopped, but this trip jumpstarted the need to finish the set! Soul Eater is one of my favorite series of all-time and I’d say give it a read or watch the anime!
Engineered Garments Wrap Knit Vest 🦺🥦
Nepenthes has been killing it with every brand under their umbrella, including Engineered Garments. I’ve had this piece in my browser for MONTHS, either waiting for a discount or just passing on it and my waiting was fruitful because I copped this mohair marvel for 87$! At first I thought it was going to be a pullover vest with an elongated fit, but it turns out it is starts out as a shawl that overlaps your torso and goes over your arm if that makes sense. I’d love to pair this with an everyday outfit by just throwing it on with something plain like it’s always belonged in my closet just to embrace the caveman aesthetic. I would say the Kelly green color is also very caveman-chic and reminded me of the Caveman Corner, so I had to do it for the newsletter!
Caveman Beaded Bracelet 🍃🪵💜🍊
Speaking of items that remind me of the newsletter, my girlfriend was making braclets one day for her friends and I asked her if she could make me one that was inspired by the newsletter. She agreed, but asked that she’d be the one in charge of the vision and that it would be a surprise for how it would turn out, so I of course agreed! It turned out amazing and featured some small details that ranged from green leaves to represent the greenery of the cave, a purple mushroom signifying my favorite color and brown beads ranging in shape that fit the caveman mantra. I’ve been looking for accessories lately and this one will always stay on my arm and in my heart 😘
